Join Us Tuesday to Fight Mass Incarceration

This Tuesday, June 9th, BIC leaders and families from across the state are coming together to fight for Jobs Not Jails to end mass incarceration! At the State House in Boston, we will join families from across the state to share our testimony with the Judiciary Committee and implore them to pass the Justice Reinvestment Act! BIC leaders and families are committed to ending mass incarceration, building a path towards opportunity, and uplifting the dignity of all our sisters and brothers. Judiciary Committee members, including Rep. Claire Cronin (D - Brockton/Easton), will be discussing Ending Mandatory Minimums and Pretrial Bail Reform.

What: Judiciary Committee Hearing
When: Tuesday, June 9th from 1:00 - 5:00 PM
Where: Boston State House, Gardner Auditorium

A bus will be leaving from Brockton at 10:45AM for the hearing in Boston. If you’re interested in joining us, please contact Isabel Lopez at 617-306-1365.

On Tuesday, May 12th, the “Vote No” opposition in Brockton to the proposed Fairgrounds casino won a major moral victory. On that day, David knocked down Goliath! The billionaire casino owner spent over $1 million and the “Vote No” Campaign spent little to nothing. When the election results showed only a 143 vote difference it proves that the message of the potential negative consequences of expanding gaming in Brockton has been heard by the residents of our city.

Celebrating this moral victory against the casino, BIC leaders are continuing to guide our efforts to keep the casino out of our city. The fight is not over. BIC leaders are working to lift up the voices of the concerned residents of our community.
